22Oct08 - CBS Sports has reached an
agreement to extend its broadcast rights
to one of the greatest rivalries in all
of sports, the annual Army-Navy football
game, through the 2018 season. As part
of the new agreement, beginning in 2009,
the game will be moved a week later and
played on the second Saturday in
December to conclude college football's
regular season. The announcement was
made today by Mike Aresco, Executive
Vice President, Programming, CBS Sports;
Kevin Anderson, Director of Athletics at
the United States Military Academy and
Chet Gladchuk, Director of Athletics at
the United States Naval Academy.

Admiral Gets Nod For 3rd Star (FAYETTEVILLE
OBSERVER 24 APR 08) ... President Bush has
nominated a Fort Bragg admiral for his third
star and reassignment as deputy commander of
U.S. Joint Forces Command at Norfolk, Va.
Pending Senate confirmation, Navy Rear
Adm. Robert S. Harward Jr. will become a
vice admiral at the command, which provides
combat-ready forces in the United States to
commanders overseas. Components include U.S.
Army Forces Command, Air Combat
Command, the U.S. Atlantic Fleet and Marine
Forces Command. Harward is
deputy commander for operations of the Joint
Special Operations Command at Fort
Bragg. The command oversees some of
the the military’s most secret and sensitive
counterterrorist missions.
Harward was
born to a Navy family in Newport, R.I. After
graduating from Tehran American High School,
he attended the Naval Academy Preparatory
School in Newport. In June 1975, he was
awarded a fleet appointment to the Naval
Academy and graduated in 1979. He graduated
as the honor man of Class128 in Basic
Underwater Demolition/SEAL (BUDS). Harward
has been a platoon commander at SEAL Team 3,
an assault team leader and operations
officer at Naval Special Warfare Development
Group, and commanding officer of SEAL Team
3. He took command of Naval Special Warfare
Group 1 in August 2001 and deployed soon
after 9/11 to Afghanistan. He commanded a
combined joint special operations task force
and directed missions throughout the
country. His forces included 2,700 Army,
Navy and Air Force special operations
personnel as well as special operations
forces from Germany, Australia, New
Zealand, Canada, Denmark, Norway and Turkey.
In October 2002, he deployed as commander of
Task Force 561, where he commanded Naval
Special Warfare Task Group Central in Iraq.
His forces included U.S., Polish, British
and Kuwaiti naval forces. His most recent
assignments include jobs at the National
Security Council and the Joint Chiefs of
Staff.
